Watch Wildlife for FREE
Our area is just wonderful for wildlife watching. Add a FREE wildlife adventure to your stay . The Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve is a field laboratory for scientific research and estuarine education. The 1400-acre Reserve is a hub of activity. Visited by thousands every year, the Reserve hosts many programs that promote education, research, and conservation in Elkhorn Slough. The Visitor Center has award-winning exhibits that invite everyone to explore the Unseen Slough. There are five miles of trails that meander through beautiful oak woodlands, calm tidal creeks and freshwater marshes. They offer 2 tours each day on the weekends and special events throughout the year. On this nature tour you may see otters, birds, seals and more enjoying the calm waters of the slough.
Entrance Fee and Hours
The Reserve and Visitor Center are open Wednesday - Sunday, 9 am. to 5 pm. Admission is free to the Visitor Center and picnic areas. To walk the trails there is a $2.50 day-use fee (cash or check, no credit cards) for adults 16 and older; children are free; entry is also free with a California hunting or fishing license.
Reminder: Pets and bikes are NOT allowed on any of the Reserve trails

The Visitor Center can loan binoculars to you at no charge. They also have bird books for loan.
Docent-led Tours
Volunteer interpretive guides lead nature walks every Saturday and Sunday, leaving at 10:00 a.am. and 1:00 p.am. There is a special Early Bird walk the first Saturday of the month at 8:30 a.am.
