Since sometimes, the weather decides to give us some rain, we are pleased to give you the following ideas on how to enjoy the Santa Cruz area without the steady sunshine, which is our norm.

Winter Waterfalls

Walking in a forest after a big storm is a special treat. Streams, creeks and rivers will be raging. Waterfalls that trickle in the summer can be wild and turbulent in the winter.

Five Finger Falls or Maple Falls at Forest of Nisene Marks State Park

Hot Tubing, it eliminates the rain on your face

Walking on the beach and watching the storm waves

Monterey Bay Aquarium:

Just 45 minutes south, be sure to call and get your tickets

in advance so you don’t have to stand in line.

Rain Forest Weekends

Jan. 8 through Mar. 26 (weekends only)

Ride an antique steam train through California’s rain forest of coastal redwoods as an informed naturalist reveals fascinating information about forest ecology. The redwoods are particularly dramatic during these months. Train departs 11 am, 12:30 and 2 pm. $18 adults, $12 children.

Visit a working marine laboratory, Seymour Marine Discovery Center. Exhibit halls, aquarium, and touch tanks, tours to marine mammal research overlook, Ocean Discovery Shop, and unsurpassed vistas of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Hold a sea star - marvel at the world's largest whale skeleton - think like a scientist!
